Cordell Hull Birthplace and Museum State Park

Located near Byrdstown, Pickett County, the Cordell Hull Birthplace and Museum State Park is a twenty-acre site acquired by the Tennessee Historical Commission in 1990 and placed under the State Division of Parks in 1997. It is the birthplace and memorial of Pickett County's most famous son, the “Father of the United Nations,” Cordell Hull. The site is operated by the Friends of Cordell Hull.

Cordell Hull was born October 2, 1871, to William and Elizabeth Riley Hull. The small log cabin where he was born, rebuilt in 1952 and again in 1995, stands on the site. It is the only Pickett County site that is directly associated with Cordell Hull.

Hull and his wife, Rose Frances Witz Hull, had no children. He left most of his belongings to his niece, Katherine Hull Ethridge, with the understanding that they would go to the Friends of Cordell Hull in Byrdstown when adequate facilities were in place. In 1996 the Friends of Cordell Hull, along with the State of Tennessee, completed an impressive museum to house the collection. The Cordell Hull Birthplace and Museum is open daily.
